A fast mobile scanner has been constructed to meet the growing demand for production control of wind turbine blades. The mobile automatic scanner is ideal for quick ultrasonic scanning of turbine blades for:
The scanning velocity along the turbine blade is up to 20' (6 meters) per minute. The scanner is a self-propelled vehicle with power supply, pumps and water supply. The AMS-20 scanner is equipped with 26 probes in flexible holders and runs with the P-scan-4 Flex. In set-up for line scanning a 51" (130 centimeter) wide sector along the turbine blade is inspected. The mobile scanner can be used for detailed inspection of blade sectors where a fast line scanning indicates deviations from quality requirements. For this purpose the probe holder frame is rotated 90 degrees for close scanning across the suspicious-looking sector of the blade.
A single operator controls the mobile scanner. The operator can perform an on-line evaluation of the data displayed on-line in front of him while the operator is moving the scanner along the blade. The mobile scanner is very efficient in use since it quickly can move itself from one turbine blade to the next one to be inspected.
